World Health Day 2023
The world Health Day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the world health organization (WHO), celebrated every 7th of April, annually. It draws the attention of the world to specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. In preparation for world health day 2023, Dentu care foundation payed an advocacy visit to the palace of the chief of Autabalaifi in Karu Local government area of Nasarawa state. As part of it's plans to commemorate the day, Dentu care foundation intended to enlighten the community of Autabalaifi on Non communicable diseases (NCDs) with emphasis on Cardiovascular diseases on the 7th of April 2023. However, the schedule activity could not hold on the date considering the day to be Good Friday, a day most members of the community reserve for religious obligation. The appointment was later rescheduled to 14th of April 2023.
The foundation was able to reach out to 58 people on the 14th of April where sensitization and enlightenment activities was carried out among the members of the community comprising of both male and female gender with age grades consisting of youths and elders. It is the expectation of Dentu care foundation that those participants and beneficiaries of the activity were to take our message to their various homes and sub- communities for further enlightenment.
World Malaria Day 2023
Dentu care foundation joined the rest of the world in marking the 2023 world Malaria Day. The event which is observed every April 25th since 2007 became an annual event to raise awareness of the disease eradication, a disease which has affected over 3.3 billion people in over 106 countries and accounting for an estimated 627,000 deaths mostly among African children. In line with the theme of the year for 2023 world malaria day " time to deliver zero malaria; invest, innovate and implement" Dentu care foundation focused on sustaining the creation of awareness on the need to implement the available tools and strategies to reach out to communities and individuals on the need to eradicate this disease. As such, the foundation took out it's time on the 25th of April 2023 to enlighten people on how to eradicate malaria in our communities through community engagement and the distribution of flyers which were circulated to people both physically and through our social media handles.
World Health and Safety Day of Workers 2023.
In order to promote the resolution of the international labour conference of June 2022 towards ensuring a safe and healthy working environment, Dentu care foundation participated fully in the observance of the 2023 world Health and Safety Day of Workers by visiting workplaces to enlighten the workers on the need to maintain safety in their work environment. One of such visit to commemorate the day was to a timber shade adjacent international market at one man village, Karu LGA of Nasarawa on the 28th of April 2023, where 45 persons ( workers) granted audience and were enlightened on the risk associated with their work environment and the need to maintain safety. The foundation also enlightened them on their health and certain risks factors associated with their work and how to prevent some of those health challenges related to the work environment. The sensitization and enlightenment campaign were also done through the distribution of flyers and our other social media handles.
World Hepatitis Day 2023
Adhering to the call for action to all stakeholders around the world to eradicate the viral Hepatitis, Dentu care foundation aligned with the 2023 theme " we are not waiting" and took a proactive measure to help fight the viral hepatitis among remote communities in Nigeria. To mark the day, Dentu care foundation payed an advocacy visit to the chief of Ado Maichibi in Karu LGA of Nasarawa seeking for his permission to sensitize and perform free hepatitis enlightenment and screening in his community. The letter which was submitted to the chief was acknowledged that approved. On the 28th of July 2023, the foundation went out to the community and gave them enlightenment on hepatitis and carried out free hepatitis B and C screening . 50 people were screened. We encouraged those that were negative to get themselves vaccinated and those that were positive to go for further confirmatory test and after that, seek medical attention. To further enhance a wider coverage of our activities on the world Hepatitis day, we rapidly engaged various social media handles with flyers and sensitization editorial on the need for people to go get themselves tested. The feedback has been very impressive.
World Hepatitis Day 2024
In commemoration of World Hepatitis Day on the 28th of July, Dentu care foundation payed an advocacy visit to the chief of Mista-Ali in Bassa local government area of plateau in order to get his approval to enlighten and screen the people in his community for hepatitis B and C. The activity was successfully carried out where 74 people were screened and counselled on the necessary steps to take after the test.
The UN theme for World Hepatitis Day 2024 " Take Action" is a wake up call to all stakeholders in the world, the health practitioners, the Government, Private sector organizations and all individuals to act and do something that can prevent the spread and impact of the deadly Virus called Hepatitis.
DENTU CARE FOUNDATION with it core mandate of ensuring public health safety has once again demonstrated it commitment to Take Action by partnering with other Concerned Organizations in the Civil Society Network on Hepatitis to commiserate a significant world Hepatitis Day on the Plateau. The event which started with an awareness walk from the Old Airport junction to the Secretariat Bridge featured a lot of interaction with passersby and the distribution of fliers to further sensitize the public on the danger of hepatitis and need to prevent it spread. Other activities that were also carried out include free screening and counseling for over 300 people and referrals to Medical facilities for those with alarming conditions. Our team also visited the Nigeria Correctional Service, Plateau state command where over 200 officers and Inmates were screened and counselled freely on the dangers of the Hepatitis virus.
